MEPs back targets to onshore EU battery supply chain
The European Parliament has voted to increase goals for the refining and processing of critical raw materials within the EU. MEPs on the industry committee have proposed a target of 50% for metals such as nickel, lithium, and copper. Transport & Environment (T&E) supports this move, stressing the importance of onshoring and diversifying the supply of critical metals for Europe's green transition. T&E highlights the risk of relying on a concentrated overseas market for the battery supply chain.
