Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation (SAIC) has appointed a South African dealer and distributor to sell its commercial electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. The new business, called MAXUS Electric Vehicles, will focus exclusively on the EV market and aims to help urban logistics fleets reduce costs and achieve net-zero goals. Early customers in South Africa have already saved over 220,000kg of carbon emissions by using MAXUS EVs. MAXUS will initially focus on the Gauteng market and plans to open dealerships in other metropolitan areas. MAXUS Electric Vehicles will offer three commercial EV models in South Africa.
